Her first acting role was in the New York University short film “Whatever Happened to Mason Reese?”(1990), in which she portrayed the main character. However, her television breakthrough came with a series of TV commercials for “Noxzema”, thanks to which she unsurprisingly earned the nickname “The Noxzema Girl”, recognition among the public, and the real start of her net worth.

In 1992, she was cast in her first notable role in the soap opera “Loving”, and continued to appear on television throughout the following years in a recurring role in the “Vanishing Son”, “Earth 2” and “Beverly Hills 90210”.

Since 1999, Rebecca has been a regular on “Wasteland”, “Dead Like Me” and “Vanished” series’, and had a recurring role on “Nip/Tuck” in which she played next to Julian McMahon. The end of the ‘90s also brought a new film role to Gayheart as she starred in “Jawbreaker” alongside Rose McGowan, Julie Benz and Judy Greer. His parents, Jorge Cruz and Silvia Martinez, filed a wrongful-death lawsuit on 6 August 2001 against her. Gayheart paid for Cruz's hospital and funeral expenses. [June 2001]
